Open Window is Mike Cohen’s most personal album to-date. This album showcases his enormous talent as musician, bandleader and composer.
The quintet assembled to record his new disc, Open Window, recorded at famed Bennett Studio, are some of the finest jazz musicians playing in New York City today. Mike has said that “it was an honor” to have Pete Brendler, Rich Huntley, Soren Moller and Amanda Monaco playing on this disc. Their high-level talent allowed his music to have the complete artistic expression he envisioned.
Open Window, features eight original tunes composed by Mike Cohen and one standard. The core narrative of the album, Mike has said, is “about two things...emotion and communication” which was inspired by his teenage battle with Leukemia. Open Window is an album that has been brewing in his psyche for awhile and is the culmination of time spent developing his own voice.

I was fortunate to work with great musicians who made this project more successful than I could have imagined.
I’ve known Drummer Rich Huntley for many years. We’ve played together in the Kleztraphobix for a long time. He is one of the most sensitive musicians I've ever played with. Pete Brendler is a fairly new aquaintence and he and Rich played together as if they had been playing together all their lives. Sorren Moller, piano, also a new aquaintence and one of the most amazing pianists I’ve ever worked with. Amanda Monaco on guitar. I’ve known her for quite some time and I’ve always wanted to do a project with her. With this CD, we got the chance to work together.
The musicians gave freely of themselves through the recording process. They were committed to making this CD sound as good as it could be. I really feel as if this was a great band, not just 5 studio musicians, working on a singular project. I will always be indebted to them for their time and energy. For the first time in my life, I had a recording that was as relaxed as it could have been. Those two days were such a great hang. I wish I could do it every day!
